Zuda Comic Submitted

For those who don't know I have been cooking up an online comic for some time and am about 16 pages in as of this writing. Everything has been submitted to Zuda, and now it's just a waiting game to see what they say. I aim to finish the series regardless, (60 pages.)

I have devloped a production blog which I will link here for the web comic, and will activate the blog as live once I hear back from the powers that be. The blog will have some pre-vis artwork I did gearing up and some concept sketches of creatures, machines, and characters. It's been a planning, sketching, and writing game, but it's really starting to come together nicely. I have begun to speed up significantly on the artwork, etting a single page to about 8 hours from start to finish. I will be setting up a portfolio section of this site to show comic-based stuff (ah...my roots). I am sure some of you will be surprised to see some of the oldies but goodies in there.

In personal notes, my brother and his wife have had a new baby boy - Ethan Govar, and he is already looking like he will be a true Govar in height.

New ThereAndBackAgain.net live & Masquerade on the Charles! 2008

I finally moved up ThereAndBackAgain.net version 2.0 live to the server, and though it is still not completely finished, it has been well received. I will be adding illustrations to the site over the next few months before taking a hiatus for a short while for a scheduled illustration project that has been in the works for some time. Many new features were added over the original including colour images, and flippable pages. Items that are forthcoming: search functionality and a downloadable version of the site.

In other news, the lovely Emily Chubb and I won the Masquerade on the Charles mask contest for 2008 during their swanky event they have each year. I will post some more images in the photos section of the site (once I finish programming it.)

All Hallow's E'en 2007

Every year I do a big Halloween Party with plenty of sangria, wine, beer, liquor, and good eats, and there is generally a good time had by all. This year was no exception, and once again the party ranged all over the house inside, and outside. Thankfully the weather held up and we were able to make use of the nice big deck. The early crowd departed around midnight or so to the second wind of heavy hitters who stayed til 4:30 in the morning for a little get down. Somehow the party always finds it's way to the kitchen too...I have moved up some of the pictures here, and eventually when I get the photo gallery back up, I will stick them there.

Maryland Renaissance Festival 2007

I've been a couple of times this year and snapped some great pics along the way that I've posted in the photos section. If you haven't been before, and live in the greater DC/Virginia/Maryland/Philadelphia area - Go! It generally last from late August to mid October. (I recommend going in the later months as the heat isn't quite so brutal. There were a dozen or so people that were taken from the festival via ambulance due to heat exhaustion one of the weekends I attended.)

If you are a fan of olde-style alcoholic drinks, wines, mead, snake-bites, and other concoctions - it is a special treat. Find out more info at RennFest.com

"Folklore" Contest Winners

I mentioned in my last post my illustration for the PS3 Folklore "create a creature" competition....and I lost :( They really went with less professionally done pieces and more...well..."kid-created" pieces in my opinion. My guess by looking at the pieces that were winners and runners-up, was that the average age was somewhere in the early teens. It was fun working on the piece, and for those that have not checked out my friend Jeff's page - go look at the piece he did. It was the clear winner in my mind.

Artscape Pics & Submission for "Folklore" Contest

I finally got my act together and cropped some recent photos - most of which are from the art festival here in Baltimore, Artscape. It tends to have more craftfair-style stuff and less 2D/3D artwork, but with a kickin' music and alcohol scene. This year the 3D stuff was quite nice as was the annual car decoration/sculpture thing they do. I included some of the choicest cars...some were just over the top. I also must give nods to "Far From Earth" - friend of a friend's band that played one of the stages this year - some good stuff on a big stage.

Also - I entered a rather slapped together illustration - about 6 hours of developement for the PS3 Folklore "create a creature" competition. Basically you do a sketch and describe a creatures powers for inclusion in the Folklore game that is forthcoming. I think the character becomes a downloadble add-on, and is playable in the game if you are the grand prize winner. My friend Jeff also entered and he gave me a peak at his entry. If his is any indication - competition is fierce!

Zuda Comics and More Site Revisions

I have revised the site interface to accommodate new and larger images, and updated the blog to display an RSS feed. I have also added a couple of new sections - "Interfaces" in the Portfolio section and a revised "Links" section. I have also added the RSS feed for the blog - took a bit fo tinkering to get that to display correctly in flash...but it was worth it.
 In other news, I am entering a few pieces for a new online comic series - these done for DC comics under the ZudaComics.com site. Its a pretty nifty little site/player and it's nice to see some of the big publishers entering the web-world.

New Slimmer PSP Released

33% Lighter, slightly slimmer and incorporates video output from the device itself. Another added feature to the tiny device/big screen, is the ability to save a UMD game directly to the device temporarily instead of accessing the card which mean faster load times - the biggest negative most folks tend to cite the device. The new PSP is released in September, and is said to come in three different colors - black, white and silver.

Read more on Engadget.

Masquerade on the Charles - 2007

Two friends of mine, Emily and Krishane, and myself were in attendance at the first ever Masquerade on the Charles - a ball to benefit Charles Street businesses in downtown Baltimore. It was quite an event - many creative masksand the three of us actually made it to the final round of mask judging. I chose a "green man" motif while my lovely companions went artsy/modern and classically elegant respectively. Click the pics for jpegs of each.
 It looks like the event will be a yearly thing, send me an email and I will give you details or put you on the mailing list if interested in coming next year. It was hands down one of the shwankiest events in recent memory.
	UPDATE: We made a few papers at the event - and what a great qoute they snagged from me!

DanielGovar.com 2007 Now Online

I finally made some programming leaps and modifications to the site, and gave the site a new look and feel. Some of the new features:
 * Photo section
 * Updated Blog (will soon have RSS feed functionality)
 * Customizable page background
 * Draggable and collapsable windows
 * Fullscreen fill site with with native resolution
 * Built-in guestbook/comment area
 * Song selector (I will probably rotate new music from time to time}
 Please leave me some feedback and/or suggestions on what you think of the new design, (brutal honesty people...it's the only way any real change gets made). One change that I am planning on down the road, is a comment area associated with each image. I don't have that right now as I thought it would add another level of clutter, so as soon as I work out the spacing issue, that will be another tweak.
